Tom Walter Wake Forest

Tom Walter is a Division I baseball coach and social impact leader with more than 900 career wins across George Washington, New Orleans, and Wake Forest. Throughout his career, he has prioritized education, service, and player development. Every athlete he has coached has earned a college degree and participated in community outreach. At Wake Forest, his teams have achieved national recognition, including a No. 1 ranking and repeated NCAA tournament appearances.

Tom was born in New York and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. His values were formed during his college years in Washington, DC, while attending Georgetown University. During his time there, he served as team captain in both his junior and senior years, was named to the Big East All-Academic Team in 1990 and 1991, earned team MVP honors in his final season, and received freshman of the year recognition at the start of his college career.

After earning a degree in finance, Tom entered the MBA program at George Washington University. While completing his graduate studies, he tutored athletes in calculus, managed equipment for various sports, and worked as an assistant coach. That season, the team won the Atlantic 10 championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament in 1992.

In 1996, Tom was appointed head coach at George Washington University. Over eight seasons, he recorded a 273–181 record, becoming the program’s all-time winningest coach. In 2002, he guided the team to the NCAA tournament and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year. His leadership helped 26 players sign professional contracts, including one who reached Major League Baseball. In 2019, he was inducted into the GW Athletics Hall of Fame and is also recognized in the AAABA and Cambria County Halls of Fame.

Thomas Walter continues to lead at Wake Forest and through Get In the Game, a nonprofit he founded in 2020 to engage youth in leadership and service. With nearly 1,000 career wins, he remains dedicated to making an impact on and off the field.
